What Is Root on Android and How to Root a Device?

Rooting gives you privileged control — known as root access — over the deeper subsystems of a device running the Android operating system. The good news for SPYERA users is that root is not required to install and run the software.

What is root access on Android?

Rooting lets owners of Android smartphones, tablets, and other devices attain administrator-level control over the system. It’s usually done to overcome the limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers place on some devices.

With root access you can alter or replace system apps and settings, run specialised apps that require administrator-level permissions, and perform other operations that are otherwise off-limits to a regular Android user.

Do I need to root the target device to use SPYERA?

No — rooting is not required. SPYERA installs on any Android device running a supported operating system version. We do, however, recommend a rooted device, because some advanced features only work on rooted phones.

Check the compatibility page for the list of supported Android versions before you buy.

Which features work on non-rooted Android?

To see exactly which features need root permission:

  1. Visit the features page — every feature is listed by default.
  2. Filter the list by clicking a platform.
  3. In the platform menu you’ll find two Android options:
    • Android Phones — features available on non-rooted Android.
    • Android Phones – Rooted — features available on rooted Android.

How do I root the target device?

SPYERA is monitoring software, not rooting software, so we can’t directly perform or support the rooting process or any third-party rooting tool. That said, we publish tutorials for the most popular devices.

  • Browse our rooting tutorials for well-known models.
  • For your exact model, search Google for “[your phone model] how to root”.

If you need a feature that requires root, root the target device first. Once rooting is successful, purchase and install SPYERA afterward.

Does my own phone need to be rooted?

No. Only the target phone receives the software, so only that device matters. It makes no difference what model your own phone is or which network you use.
