Do I Need Internet, Data, or Wi-Fi to Use SPYERA?

Yes — to use SPYERA the target device needs an internet connection, provided by either mobile data or Wi-Fi, plus an active SIM card to activate the software. This article explains exactly when SPYERA needs internet, when it uses mobile data or Wi-Fi, and which features work over regular phone service alone.

SPYERA needs a SIM card to activate

SPYERA requires an active SIM card (or CDMA phone service) with internet access to install and activate the software. If the target device has no SIM card at the time of installation, you can insert your own SIM card to activate SPYERA and complete the setup.

SPYERA needs internet to activate and upload data

After activation, SPYERA monitors the device and uses an internet connection to report the captured data to your online web account. That connection can come from:

  • Mobile data
  • Wi-Fi
  • Or both

Data is uploaded on a schedule you choose — from real-time to less frequent, configurable reporting. If the target user connects to Wi-Fi regularly at home, school, or work, it may be possible to avoid using the phone’s mobile data almost entirely.

Internet access is required to upload your monitored logs. However, Spy Call (listening live to the phone’s surroundings) and Intercept Call (listening live to actual calls) do not need an internet connection.

Features that use phone service instead of internet

Some features rely only on regular phone/GSM service and work even when all logging and reporting is turned off, or when there is no internet at all:

  • Spy Call and Intercept Call
  • Remote SMS commands — commands you send from the monitoring phone need the target device to have phone service to receive them and send an acknowledgement SMS back.

Before you buy, confirm your target device meets these requirements on the compatibility page.
