SPYERA lets you listen to live phone calls as they happen and automatically record every call for later playback from your web account. This guide covers both call listening methods so you can choose the one that best fits your target device and network.
Two ways to monitor phone calls
- Automatic call recording — every call is recorded and uploaded to your web account as an audio file you can play back anytime.
- Call interception (live listening) — you join a call in real time using conference-call technology and listen as it happens.
Call Tapping / Call Interception is available with the SPYERA Smartphone version.
Method 1: Record phone calls automatically (recommended)
This is the easiest and most reliable way of listening to calls. It works on all networks in all countries, so we recommend it for most users. SPYERA records every call and sends the audio files to your web account — you simply log in and play them back.
You can record all calls, only numbers saved in the phone book, only numbers not in the phone book, or a short list of specific numbers you choose.
Enable call recording
- Log in to your SPYERA web account.
- Click Call in the left-hand menu.
- Click Tools.
- Enable Call Recording.
- Set the Audio Recording Source (Android devices only).
- Set the Call Recording Watch List.
Set the audio recording source
An audio source must be selected for call recording to work. Try the available methods to find the one that performs best on your target device — not every method behaves identically on every phone. If only one side of the conversation is being recorded, switch to a different source and test again.
Set the call recording watch list
To record conversations only with specific contacts, select Record in Watch List and enter up to 5 phone numbers in international format — a plus sign (+), the country code, then the full number (for example, +17135551212 for a US number).
To capture every incoming and outgoing call instead, enable all three of these options:
- Record Unknown Numbers
- Record Numbers In Address Book
- Record Number Not In Address Book
Click Sync Now to push the changes to the target phone, and allow up to 1 hour for them to take effect. Recorded calls appear in the Calls category on the left side of your web account.
Method 2: Call interception — live listening (advanced)
Conference calling (3-way calling) and call waiting must be enabled on the target’s network and service account for this method to work.
With call interception, SPYERA sends you an SMS alert whenever a call connects on the target phone. If you then dial the target from your predefined Monitor number, SPYERA silently patches you into the live conversation. Any call placed from your Monitor number to the target during an active call becomes an intercept call.
SMS alerts can be enabled for all calls, numbers in the phone book, numbers not in the phone book, or up to 10 specific numbers on a watch list.
Set it up
- Log in to your web account.
- Go to Live Listening.
- Click Set Monitor Number and enter your predefined number.
Important: An intercept call is a normal network call to the target that SPYERA answers automatically — without ringing, vibrating, showing Caller ID, or leaving any record in the call log. Always mute the microphone on your Monitor phone to avoid detection.
Requirements and limitations
- Do not block or hide Caller ID when calling from your Monitor number. SPYERA matches the incoming call by Caller ID, and without it the call behaves like a normal call.
- Calls placed through a PBX, calling cards, Skype, or other VoIP/internet clients usually will not work, because their Caller ID is either unavailable or unpredictable.
- Call interception currently works on GSM networks only (AT&T, T-Mobile, and others). CDMA networks (Sprint, Verizon, and others) cannot patch the third-party call correctly.
On CDMA networks, use Method 1 (automatic call recording) instead.
